The climb to Tianmen

These photos are about a week old I think. Mom and Dad have had a pretty tight schedule since they arrived in Shanghai and no luck finding fast internet to send photos. But they have finally sent over their updates from Tianmen, and post will follow with pictures from Zhangjiajie.

There are 99 road bends and 999 steps to climb until you get to the top of Tianmen mountain. A long and breathtaking cable ride preceeds both , so you can imagine the height in elevation. You may think that the pictures are a bit discoloured, but it is actually just that foggy at that altitude. In fact, on the climb down, Mom and Dad did mention they were caught in the rain. The top of the mountain is sometimes referred to as the gates to heaven (or something along those lines). If you ask me, it sure does look like it. Take a look at the profile pictures of Mom and Dad individually (last couple of photos).

Luckily they also got to experience the new glass floor platform that was just installed and open to the public this October. Talk about good timing. If you ask me, it really looks like the went exploring to some haunted mountain.

The glass floor section of the cliffside trail just opened last month - we had to don these cloth slippers over our shoes to walk through this segment. Too bad it was so misty, a view of the clear drop all the way to the bottom would have been something spectacular.
