Golf trips

Mont Tremblant Montreal (Sept 2019)
We are back again in Tremblant in the early fall for the annual FAS conference ..now a lot more relaxed atmosphere than in the years past ('90s) where black ties punctuated some dinner events

One of the conference night's event was at Le Pont Couvert - a covered bridge near the bucolic town of La Conception less than a 10 minutes drive from Tremblant. This is a favorite wedding venue for region and we can certainly see it exudes old village charm. At one time in early 1900s there used to be over 1200 covered bridges in the Upper Laurentinans , and many were in Quebec. Despite the romantic notions attached to covered bridges ("kissing bridge") the real purpose was to protect the bridge's structure from the harsh elements. But over the decades, whether the covered bridges survived depended largely on the villages' desire to preserve them

Our golf tournament day @ Le Geant started out wet and cloudy yet the conditions didn't detract from the awesome grandeur of the course.

Roaming deers and slivers of sunshine were highlights to add to a typical grey fall golf day

Tom took us out to the club link course which he can access for free as a member ... these two courses, Le Maitre and later at Rosemere were the two occasions where I was left alone to 'do ma own thang' in terms of the grip, the swing , the footing and the alignment..etc...and it proved exactly the cure ...see?!? you gotta just FEEL at One with the BALL !!!

Summertime at Tremblant is for hikers & suns seekers ... beautiful views to rival our memories of the winter ski scape views

taking dusk time stroll in the old quarters of Montreal pier side and dinner at Le Jardin Nelson

We stayed at a culinary institute in the heart of Montreal - Hotel de L'ITHQ  here's a view from our balcony.
The hotel is close to the Latin Quarter and virtually across the street from St. Denis and St. Louise Square
@ Gibby's in Place d'Youville - founded by Gilbert Rosenberg, an avid sailor, skydiver and motorcyclist. This is an actual Canadian historical site - the archway to Gibbys was once the south bank of the Saint Pierre River, a site frequented by early explorers, Jacques Cartier in 1535 and Chanmplain in 1611.. The restaurant was once part of the buildings of Sisters of Charity, the "Grey Nuns" - headed by Marguerite d'Youville. The Youville Stables 1740 housed horses stalls in the central courtyard of the present Gibby's entryway

We dutifully lined up outside of Schwartz for the famed Mtl smoked meat sandwich - moist and hefty!!

Great clear day to visit the Kondiaronk Belvedere at the Chalet du Mont Royal - a semicircular plaza overlooking downtown Montreal. Named for the Huron chief Kondiaronk who signed a major peace accord with the French in 1701

Visiting Le Jardin Botanique Lantern Festival....got there in time for pre dusk tour around of the other notable grounds prior to the lite lanterns ...this is an annual fall spectacle. This year's theme is "Son of Heaven", the name given to the Chinese Emperor throughout the Han Dynasty.

Here is a sea creature from the work of Shan Hai Jing "Classic of Mountains and Seas" many Chinese legends can be traced back to its writing more than 5000 yrs ago. The book's Wilderness section describes a menagerie of fabulous creatures, including the renowned 'He Lou Yu' Born in Inner Mongolia, in a tributary of the Yellow River, the creature has one head, 10 bodies...and barks like a dog! Legend has it that one taste of the fish has the power to heal serious skin infections and breeding it will protect against fires. He Lou Yu can turn into a bird, but at the slightest sound of thunder, it hides, terrified.

Prince Edward Island (Sept 2018)

As an activity, golfing usually melded with other sightseeing ..thus much of vacation posts in recent years have eclipsed this page. Here's one to break the long void - I'm relegating our last PEI trip to Golf... well as I should,  given its one of the main reasons for Tom's enthusiasm in attending his industry's yearly conference.

Arriving in Charlottetown - our base was the Delta Marriott by the shores

As the evening waned they brought out the lobsters!! Freshly steamed on a buffet line on the beach

Fiddlers, folk songs and group sing-a-longs capped off the night

PEI's native chef Michael (Smith) & proprietor of The Inn at Bay Fortune w organic salad

Toured Ann of Green Gable Heritage Place  - was actually author Lucy Maud Montgomery's cousins' farm house. Montgomery visited the farm often as a young girl. While there, we retraced her route through the "haunted woods', 'lover's lane' and 'balsam hollow'  to her home - only stone foundation remains

We were determined to find the home of the Malpeque oysters .... it happened to be the last week before the harbor restaurant closed for the season

On rooftop bar restaurant before we took in the longest running musical ever - at the PEI Confederation Centre of the Arts -  Ann of Green Gables is the crown jewel musical for the Island - 55 consecutive years ...& we were truly not disappointed! Great talent and script ..twas a real treat ;)

A greyish day at the Confederation Bridge - but it was still worth the sight - the bridge only closes in very rare anniversaries to allow hikers to walk through
